Gubernatorial Candidate 2021: Asa Newell
By: Elizabeth Arias and Lea Bartos
As a gubernatorial candidate, Asa Newell strives to improve training for Lobbyists and Legislative Assistants, as well as expand the judicial system into other delegations. Because of the few delegations from regions two and three, he also wants to bring in more delegations in general. Newell wants to take on a leadership position in order to learn to work with others and help make sure everything is running smoothly.
Newell’s biggest obstacle is the lack of audience. He works best when expressing his ideas while being surrounded by others. So the remote environment has been admittingly difficult: “I can’t be with my people and show them the guy I am in public.” If elected, Newell worries about the process of reconnecting during and after the pandemic, but knows it will be doable.
Before the election Newell had experienced the role of Chaplain. After high school, Newell plans to apply the leadership skills he has learned to either politics or his own business. Besides Youth and Government, Newell is involved in FFA, FBLA, basketball, and football. Newell admires what Youth and Government stands for: ”I love this program with all my heart and I’d do anything for it that’s why I’m running for governor.”
