Lt. Governor Candidate 2021: Carlos Martinez
By: Elizabeth Arias and Lea Bartos
As a Lt. Governor candidate, Carlos Martinez plans to include more delegations from regions two and three as well as provide all regions with equal opportunities for resources. Martinez voiced his concerns towards the distance of his delegation and as a result “we had no clue on what to do, and what was expected of us.” He wants to make sure that a disconnect is avoided as well as smaller delegations succeed in the future.
However, Martinez considers that coming from a smaller and newer delegation to be his main obstacle as he is not as well known. He explains that not only is his delegation further away from others, but also new and small. Because of this, he says that many people may not know who he is or what he hopes to accomplish. Martinez started as a Lobbyist in the program and is currently a Legislator, Committee Chair, and a part of the Steering Committee. Outside of Youth and Government he is involved with his school’s Student Council, Spanish Club, Interact Club, and Link Crew. In the future, Martinez wants to apply what he has learned into becoming a legislator: “I’ve always been interested in government but learning how these people work and do certain things will help me succeed in becoming a legislator.”
